Every hustler needs these P's:
Everyday I learn something new; many a time, I ask, "Just how much is there to learn in this Rainmaking journey?"
For the benefit of my good friend (unajijua) who is embarking on the path to entrepreneurship, this one's for you....to all those in my circle who are already in the journey, I hope you will validate my musings, and recharge your batteries as you navigate through the hustler's maze.
Entrepreneurship is a journey full of twists and turns. It is an oxymoronic journey - fulfilling, yet draining, rewarding, yet nerve-wracking, predictable, yet unclear....
It is my pleasure to share with y'all my favourite P's. You may look at these as Prescriptions for the Hustler's Journey; every hustler's suitcase should have a generous portion of these P's (Caveat: I am not an all-knowing, all-expert Jules; I have learned through getting my fingers burned, through agonising phases of confusion and pain, through humorous moments of emptying Robert's piggy bank to put a meal on the table... I digress...
Here goes:
PLAN
Be very deliberate in how you package your hustle, how you intend to make money, and how you will sell your value to a prospective client. Don't short-change yourself by trying to be everything to everyone. Don't spread yourself too thin by trying to do everything at once.

PERSPECTIVE
Never loose sight of the bigger picture. However bad things may be, look beyond this minute, this hour, this day. If it helps, look at any scar you may have (on your body or in your heart)... I repeat - look at the SCARS,, not the WOUNDS....the scars will remind you that you are strong enough to weather any storm.

PSYCHE
Some mornings, it's just hard to get out of bed. Not because the weather has your blanket clinging on you, but because you fear to face the day. You have 2 choices. Stay in bed and enjoy the pity party, or get up and face the demons (with a smile).

PATIENCE
I won't lie. I am struggling with this; it can't be easy waiting for a client to honour a payment that is more than 120 days late. It can't be easy sifting through the maze of quacks to find that one person who will not let you down.

PASSION
That fire in your belly that set you off on the journey to entrepreneurship? Never loose it.

PRAGMATISM
Be very clinical and professional in all your dealings. You may need a huge suitcase to lock up your ego; keep your emotions in check. Always.

PETROL
You can't afford to have your car stall on Uhuru Highway because you thought you had mastered the art of reading the fuel gauge, and in your wisdom, you were trying to see just how much longer you can hold on to that last KShs 500 note in your Gucci purse. Get a fuel card. Better still, resolve to never let the car go for more than a day with the Orange light on :-)

Why perfume? Get some insights on Aromatherapy. Invest in a good perfume, one with the right top, heart and base notes. My personal favourites are the classic scents: Dune, Joop, 1881. Remember, let your perfume go with you...let it not announce your arrival, or linger too long after your departure: in other words, go easy on the nozzle :-)

PROVIDENCE

Keep a circle of people who will help you keep things in perspective. Some will berate you for hanging on to a fledgling business, and encourage you to apply for a regular job...some will listen to you rant and rave about the challenges of business, and politely tell you , "you ain't seen nothing yet...it will get worse, but you will make it"....choose to stick with the kind of people who keep it real.
